FAMILIES FOR FATHERS 2013
Prostate cancer affects one in six men in their lifetime, and is most common in men over 50 – especially African Americans, Vietnam Veterans, and men with a family history of prostate cancer.
Estimates say nearly 239,000 new cases of prostate cancer will be diagnosed this year, and over 30,000 prostate cancer related deaths will occur in the United States alone.
Families for Fathers is a nonprofit organization whose goal is to promote prostate cancer awareness and to educate men and their families, on the importance of timely prostate cancer screenings. In years past, Families for Fathers has organized a 5K run/walk to promote prostate cancer awareness and has offered free prostate cancer screenings during the event. In 2013, we have developed a new plan of action, in hopes of reaching out to more men within the Louisville & southern Indiana communities. Families for Fathers will be hosting a free screening event each weekend in September (Prostate Cancer Awareness Month). Our goal is to educate more men and provide preventative care to the men of our community. For many men these events allow them to have their recommended annual exam.
